Last week Conservative Councillor Allison Coates visited the Household Recycling Centre at Bowling Back Lane in Bradford. Allison is the Shadow Portfolio holder for "Healthy People and Places" on Bradford Council.
Afterwards Allison said "My Healthy People and Places Shadow Portfolio visit last week was to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Bowling Back Lane. It was really interesting to see what happens to our household waste once it has been collected by the refuse wagons. I was pleased to hear that none of the waste Bradford collects is sent straight to landfill, it is either recycled or sent to a 3rd party to go through their Materials Recovery Process. There is also a "New to Me Shop" at Bowling Back Lane where household items in good condition are sold for just a few pounds each. This is a really great service which helps sustainability by recycling items which are still usable and also benefits households which may be struggling financially and those who like a bargain to upcycle".
Allison was also keen to talk to the teams there about the threats the Labour led Council have been making about closing our local tips. Not only will the closure of these recycling centres affect residents living in our wards due to the removal of an important service, it will also result in more fly-tipping in our area and closure will affect those employed at these re-cycling sites.
Allison's shadow portfolio responsibilities are extensive but she takes them all very seriously and wants to 'know the detail' before she comments or acts on anything. Please follow the link below to the Bradford Council's website regarding the city's portfolios.
