The Bradford Ukrainian Choir have released a charity single to help the Ukrainian refugees. Part of the song is in English the other part is in Ukrainian. The choir are hoping that the song will catch on and that everyone will be able to sing along.
The song is about the red kalyna, a low lying red berry shrub found in the wild in Ukraine and has been adopted as a national symbol in much the same way that the rose has been adopted as a national symbol of England.
The choir practice regularly at the Bradford Ukrainian club and a perform from time to time at various venues including the Bradford Cathedral. They also recently performed with the Royal Opera in Bradford Cathedral.
Howerd Halay, one of the choir members living in Bingley said ”We hope that people will enjoy the song but the second obvious point is “Soft Power”. A successful single called “Ukraine” might influence public opinion by as much as 10%. This is vital in view of apathy creeping into the Western World. The war in Ukraine is as active as ever in spite of lack of media coverage”.
Here is the music video of the song on YouTube.
