Conservative Councillors Debbie Davies, Mike Pollard and Allison Coates continue to push for a permanent library and adequate parking in Baildon.
After years of being starved of even basic maintenance Bradford Council chose to sell off Ian Clough Hall and the top car park and pledged to use the funds from the sale to purchase the former Baildon Club to ensure we have a fit for purpose library for the future, plus offices for the Town Council.
However, having demolished Ian Clough Hall and sold the site, the refurbishment of the former Baildon Club has been put on hold due to Bradford Council reviewing all large financial projects (although they have recently agreed to spend another £1.4m on the already over budget city centre market).
As things stand we have lost our hall, are losing valuable parking spaces and getting nothing in return. The temporary library on Northgate has now been in place for over 18 months and, although it is working well for basic library services, unfortunately due to its size there are not the additional groups/activities that used to take place when the library was sited at Ian Clough Hall.
We also fully support the call to keep Ian Clough’s memory alive, 54 years after his tragic death.
