At last week’s Council meeting Geoff Winnard asked the Council to suspend the evening and Sunday parking charges to support Bingley’s local economy and hospitality sector, which have been hit hard by both the pandemic and parking charges, which were introduced by Labour.
Labour Executive member, Cllr Alex Ross Shaw refused to suspend the evening and Sunday parking charges saying “we’re not removing them (the parking charges) as part of the recovery.”
Conservative Councillors across the District have continually called for Labour to scrap unnecessary parking charges, which deter visitors and tourists, harm local businesses and damage the local economy.
Speaking after the meeting Geoff said, “It is disappointing that the Labour-run Council are again not listening to businesses and residents in Bingley and are continuing to plough ahead with this damaging policy whilst seemingly ignoring the damage caused to the local economy by the pandemic. Both myself and my fellow Councillor, David Heseltine, will continue to push for an end to these parking charges and fight for Bingley and its residents.”
